Opener Kyle Verreynne scored 77 as South Africa’s U19s cruised to an eight-wicket win against Ireland U19s on Thursday.
Ireland struggled after choosing to bat first and were reduced to 71-5 in the 23rd over. Lorcan Tucker, Ireland’s wicketkeeper, went on to strike 77, off 98 balls, and was the only batsman to cross 20 in the innings.
The rest of the batting line-up did their best to post a competitive total and in the end Ireland did well to reach 185-7. Dayyaan Galiem was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-22 in his 10 overs.
Liam Smith (49) and Verreynne put together 104 in 159 balls to ease South Africa into the ascendancy. The rest of the chase was a formality as Wiaan Mulder hit 43 to help his team reach their target with four overs to spare.
