South Africa secured their spot in the Super 6 stage of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup by beating the UAE by 45 runs in Benoni on Wednesday.
After being put into bat, SA’s openers built a solid platform, with Simone Lourens scoring 27 from 29 balls and Elandri Janse van Rensburg 24 from 23.
But just 44 runs were added for the loss of six wickets in 10 overs through the middle of the innings, before a timely partnership between Jenna Evans (17 from 12 balls) and Oluhle Siyo (25* from 28) took the hosts to 112-7.
The UAE batters never got going and were bundled out for 67 in 17 overs.
Miane Smit ripped through the UAE’s middle order, taking 4-11 from her four overs, with Ayanda Hlubi (2-6) and Seshnie Naidu (2-16) also impressing with the ball.
Both teams progress to the Super Six stage along with group winners India.
