SA Emerging thrashed the Free State Knights by eight wickets in the Division 2 One-Day Cup final in Bloemfontein on Friday.
The Emerging side used the domestic competition to prepare for the 2024 U19 World Cup.
Having been put in to bat, the Knights were bowled out for 276 in 46.2 overs.
Garnett Tarr anchored the innings with 105 off 115 balls, and was involved in two solid partnerships with Jacques Snyman (60) and Dian Forrester (45).
Junaid Dawood (4-60), Codi Yusuf (3-46) and Andile Simelane (2-32) were SA Emerging’s standout bowlers.
Ethan Cunningham (55 off 32 balls) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (76 off 67) made an impressive start to the run chase, putting on 110 runs for the first wicket.
Captain David Teeger (95* off 70) and Richard Seletswane (35* off 30) then ensured the youngsters reached their target in just 32.3 overs.
“It has been an incredible journey overseeing the progress of these young talents who have been afforded the opportunity to participate at a high level within the domestic setup,” said SA Emerging assistant coach Paul Adams.
“The experience has demonstrated that we need not seek external competition when we can cultivate comparable opportunities within our local sphere.”
