A blistering century by Andre Russell powered the Jamaica Tallawahs to a 19-run win against the Trinbago Knight Riders.
The result means it’s 1 vs 2 in the CPL final after the table-topping Guyana Amazon Warriors won the first playoff against the Tallawahs. Having another stab at it, the Tallawahs cruised to victory over the defending champions the Knight Riders.
Hashim Amla’s Knight Riders were hoping to do what they did last season and finish outside the top two to go all the way to the title, but Russell blew them away.
Chris Gayle gave Jamaica a good start thanks to a 26-ball 35, then the rest was left up to Russell, who smacked no less than 11 sixes for his century, getting his side to 195-7.
Rain forced a revised target of 130 from 12 overs. The only partnership to speak of however was Amla and Munro’s 58-run stand that kept their side in it. Munro then fell for 38 and Amla then departed for 37, halting their charge completely.
McCullum’s eight was the next best score, as Russell backed up his batting display with two wickets with the ball to stifle the chase and get his side to the final with the 19-run win.
