The St David’s two-day time cricket festival ended on Sunday with two draws and two 10-wicket wins in the four matches played.
There were three centuries and 14 half centuries scored over the two days, taking the total to 10 centuries and more than 20 half-centuries scored over the four days, with eight batsmen scoring in excess of 200 runs in their two matches.
It was a run fest, helped by good batting wickets and dry, dusty outfields that were very quick and difficult to field on. Bryce Parsons of King Edward made 102 against Clifton – his second hundred of the week – and Cameron Shekleton of St Stithians got 130 against St Andrew’s – also his second. The other hundred on day four was 122 from Gerrit Badenhorst of St Andrew’s against St Stithians.
The bowlers struggled in the conditions, with only four five-wicket hauls being recorded over the four games, two of them by St Stithians leg-spinner, Joshua Hoffman. The others came from two CSA Talent Acceleration (Tap) bowlers, Odirile Modikoane and Neo Felane.
King Edward beat Clifton by 10 wickets and the Tap side beat St David’s by 10 wickets in their second outings. They were the only teams to win both games during the festival.
Neo Felane took 10 wickets for the Tap side in their game against St David’s, a feat that saw him receive the prize as the top bowler of the festival. The batting prize went to Shekleton, who made 386 runs in all, while the player of the tournament was King Edward’s Parsons, who scored 356 runs and took nine wickets.
