Despite Dean Elgar’s fifth fifty-plus score in a row, Rilee Rossouw blasted 156 for Hampshire to beat Somerset in the One Day Cup.
Somerset vs Hampshire
Could we see Dean Elgar play in the 50-over format for the Proteas in the near-future? If his form for Somerset is anything to go by, then it’s a possibility. Somerset were on the losing end for the first time this season, but Elgar continued his excellent form. He now has scores of 68, 131*, 55, 96 and 78 to his name, and almost batted through the innings for his side as Somerset laboured to 249 all out.
Rossouw made it a One Day Cup debut to remember for Hampshire, as he completely obliterated the Somerset attack in his first match since suffering an injury in the second County Championship match of the season, when he scored 99. He scored an incredible 12 fours in the space of 23 balls, as he went from 2 off 10 to 52 off 31. In the end he scored a career-best 156 off 113 balls, which included 24 boundaries and two sixes, as his side cleaned up with 13 overs to spare.
Middlesex vs Glamorgan
Another man to impress on the losing side was Colin Ingram, who took figures of 4-39 and scored 53, despite Glamorgan falling 16 runs short of Middlesex’s total. Marchant de Lange also impressed with figures of 3-35, but it was still a fourth defeat in six matches for the Welsh outfit.
Lancashire vs Worcestershire
There was more success for Kolpak players in Manchester, as Dane Vilas struck his first century for Lancashire in a crushing 152-run victory. Scores of 61 and 55 preceded his sixth List A century, and his 100 came off just 83 deliveries as Lancashire posted 313-5. Worcestershire were bowled out for 161 inside 35 overs.
Essex vs Sussex
Essex’s solid form in the One Day Cup continued with a narrow 10-run win over Stiaan van Zyl and David Wiese‘s Sussex. Alastair Cook (109) and Ryan ten Doeschate (102) scored centuries as Essex posted 295-7. Van Zyl scored 61, but he was dismissed by Simon Harmer, whose 2-40 helped to bowl Sussex out for 285.
