The Boland Rocks claimed a thrilling Super Over win against the North West Dragons at St George’s Park on Sunday.
The Rocks posted 182-6 in their 20 overs, with the Malan brothers – Janneman (33 off 18 balls) and captain Pieter (53 off 46) – setting the tone at the top of the order.
Christiaan Jonker then smashed an unbeaten 37 off 19 balls and Hardus Viljoen 19 off eight.
The Dragons appeared set for victory when Dwaine Pretorius (74* off 51 balls) and Delano Potgieter (37* off 27) were at the crease. But Rocks medium-pacer Ferisco Adams was able to defend nine runs in the final over of the innings, with Pretorius having to hit a boundary off the last ball to snatch a tie.
Adams was the Rocks’ hero in the Super Over, too. While Potgieter hit the first ball for six, Adams then ran out Pretorius and had Potgieter caught.
Janneman Malan secured the Rocks’ first win of the T20 Challenge when he edged his first delivery from Duan Jansen for four and reverse-paddled the third for another boundary.
