Schools from the Highveld dominated the 55th edition of Maritzburg College’s cricket festival as Affies, St Alban’s and KES won all four of their matches.
The King Edward VII School (KES) captain and SA U19 star Grant Roelofsen said ahead his last appearance in the festival that it’s great to play against sides from different regions. He added that he also had some unfinished business.
‘This will be my third Oppenheimer Week, and my goal is to get my first hundred at the festival; it’s still a bit of a monkey on my back,’ the SA U19 wicketkeeper/batsman told The Witness.
Roelofsen didn’t manage to achieve his objective, but scored an unbeaten 94 against Glenwood and then 96 against Michaelhouse in his last two innings. The two nineties got his side over the line in both fixtures and ensured they headed back to Johannesburg with a perfect record.
