An SA20 record partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton set up MI Cape Towns’ 98-run win against the Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers.
The batsmen put on 200 for the opening wicket in 15.2 overs on Saturday before Van der Dussen was dismissed for a superb 104 off 50 balls.
It beat the previous SA20 record partnership of 157 set by JSK’s Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks last season.
While Rickelton (98 off 49 balls) fell just short of his maiden T20 century, the visitors ended on an imposing 243-5.
JSK never looked like reaching the target, with Leus du Plooy (48 off 24 balls) and Romario Shepherd (34 off 19) the only batsman to provide any resistance.
George Linde (2-25) and Olly Stone (2-18) were the pick of the MI Cape Town bowlers.
