The Lions have acquired the services of Omphile Ramela on loan from the Cobras for the T20 Challenge.
The Cobras opener, who captains the side in the Sunfoil Series, hasn’t featured in the T20 Challenge for the under-performing Cobras this season, and strengthens a Lions side who have been rocked by injuries at the top of the order.
‘We have been unfortunate due to some players within the existing squad incurring injuries. Added to this are our players currently on national duty in Australia and we have identified the need for a specialist opening batsman,’ commented Chief Executive Officer Greg Fredericks.
‘We are happy to welcome Omphile to the Lions family for the T20 Competition and believe that a player of his calibre will strengthen our existing side.’
Regular opener and international T20 player Reeza Hendricks has a suspected grade two tear to an intercostal muscle in his rib, while Yassar Cook is recovering from dislocation of his right shoulder.
The 28-year-old joins the side on Friday and will be available for selection for the game against his other employers, the Cape Cobras, on Sunday in Potchefstroom.
