Sunday will see another full round of fixtures take place in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, as Durban hosts a triple-header.
The Titans take on the Cape Cobras in the morning game. They clashed in the previous triple-header at the Wanderers to kick off the tournament. On that occasion, the Cape Cobras won a high-scoring encounter. However, the Titans were in control during the chase and will be eager to exact some revenge.
The afternoon game see’s the Lions take on the Warriors. They have experienced differing fortunes in the tournament and the Lions will be hoping to keep their momentum going.
The feature match in the evening see’s the Dolphins clash with the Knights. They are the two teams fighting for third spot behind the Cape Cobras and Lions. A win in this encounter will go a long way to securing a semi-final berth.
Players to watch:
Kieron Pollard had an incredible debut with bat and ball against the Titans. If he replicates his performance in either discipline then the Cape Cobras should complete a season double over their northern rivals. For the Titans, Henry Davids has been relieved of the captaincy so that he can concentrate on scoring runs. He will have to come good to give the Titans a sniff.
It’s difficult to look past Chris Gayle when talking about the Lions. He’s been immense for the men from Johannesburg and will be the key at the top of the order yet again. The Warriors have been desperate for middle-order runs this tournament and have been loaned Yaseen Vallie by the Cape Cobras. He will not only want to score runs for his new team, but also prove a point to his regular employers.
Under lights in Durban the bowlers will have a say in the result. Robbie Frylinck has led the Dolphins attack and will be keen to add a few more wickets to his season total. For the Knights, Andre Russell is the only man with enough pace to rush the Dolphins powerful top-order. If he strikes early then the Knights could cement a top-three spot on the log.
Predictions:
The Cape Cobras should enjoy the coastal conditions and get the better of the Titans.
It’s difficult to break a habit and for that reason, the Lions should continue to win while the Warriors rack up another defeat.
The Dolphins are the defending champions and have more experience when things get tight. That experience should see them sneak home against the Knights.
