The Rajasthan Royals defended a target of 71 in a reduced six overs per side match to win by 10 runs (DLS) against the Delhi Daredevils in Jaipur on Wednesday.
Rain disrupted the Rajasthan Royals’ first home match, after a two-year ban, against the Delhi Daredevils at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The Royals had a slow start to their innings, losing two wickets for 28 runs. This included another low-scoring performance from the IPL’s most expensive overseas player, Ben Stokes, who was dismissed on 16.
Solid contributions from captain Ajinkya Rahane (45 off 40 balls), Sanju Samson (37 off 22 balls) and Jos Butler (29 off 18 balls) helped the hosts post 153-5 in 17.5 overs before rain stopped play.
Shahbaz Nadeem was the Delhi Daredevils’ best bowler, removing both Rahane and Samson, ending on 2-34 in his four overs.
Despite a lengthy rain delay, play resumed. The match was reduced to a six overs per side, with the Delhi Daredevils needing 71 runs to win.
After Colin Munro was run out for a Golden Duck, Glenn Maxwell and Rishabh Pant just swung wildly at incoming deliveries hoping to get some bat on it.
Maxwell managed a six and a four for his 17 but lost his scalp with DD needing 37 off 14 to win.
Pant hit three fours for his 20 off 14, DD needing 25 off the final over.
The game was out of reach when the Daredevils lost their fourth scalp needing 21 off three balls.
Chris Morris (17 off 7) hit a four and a six off the last two balls, but it wasn’t to be, Royals winning by 10 runs by DLS.
