Kagiso Rabada’s magnificent 39-ball 44 earned him the Stylish Player of the Day on his IPL debut for the Delhi Daredevils.
Despite suffering a narrow defeat to the Mumbai Indians, it was an entrancing debut for Rabada as he starred with the bat.
His 91-run partnership with Chris Morris (52 off 41 balls) brought the Delhi Daredevils within 14 runs of victory, after a top-six collapse saw DD stranded at 24-6.
Rabada got his day started with a tasteful yorker to dismiss Parthiv Patel (8), which got the visitors off to a perfect start after electing to field.
This culminated into a unified bowling display from DD’s bowling attack, with Rabada taking 1-30, as the Delhi-side restricted MI to 142-8.
It was time to bat and DD would have fancied themselves to chase down a seemingly reachable target, but Mitchell McClenaghan (3-24) got off to a flying start, taking three wickets in a top-six collapse which saw the Daredevils stunned, with 24 runs on the board.
In stepped Rabada, and with help from Morris they got the Daredevils back on track with a 91-run partnership.
Rabada smashed four fours and a six for his 39-ball 44, while Morris raced to an unbeaten 52 off 41 balls, the Proteas speedsters looking fired up for the Champions Trophy campaign.
