Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada admits he lacked energy at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
The 27-year-old took just two wickets in five matches at the tournament at an average of 75.50 and an economy rate of 9.43.
“I’m not one to make excuses, but I think I wasn’t up to scratch, and I had a disappointing tournament,” Rabada said on Thursday before the Proteas’ departure to Australia for a three-Test series.
“I guess it is what it is, but I didn’t feel that great at all in terms of energy, but I still tried my best. The harder I tried, the more the ball wasn’t coming out.
“At the same time, you have to work with what you have and find a way. There’s no excuse, but that’s the way I felt.”

Rabada also failed to fire at the 2019 ODI World Cup in England after suffering from a stiff back during the IPL that preceded it.
He admitted plans would need to be put in place to ensure he was fit and raring to go for ICC tournaments.
“If it’s happened twice, then it’s something that needs to be considered,” Rabada said. “That’s what I’ve realised, and I think management has also realised, so I think they need to come up with some plans, not just for me, but for all players.”
