Western Province kept their T20 Challenge playoff hopes alive with a six-wicket victory over the Free State Knights at Newlands on Friday.
All eyes now turn to Saturday’s fixtures, where the lineup for the eliminator playoff will be decided.
With the North West Dragons, Central Gauteng Lions and Northerns Titans having already securing their spots, the battle for top position will be fierce.
Meanwhile, the fight for the remaining playoff spot is wide open. No team had been eliminated before Friday’s fixture, but the pressure was mounting for the sides at the bottom of the table.
The EP Warriors’ fate hangs in the balance. Should they lose to the Titans, or in the event of a no-result, WP and Boland could leapfrog them into the playoff position.
On Friday, the Knights posted 157-7, with solid contributions from Dian Forrester (39), Gerrit Snyman (28), and Lesego Senokwane (25). Beuran Hendricks and Wesley Bedja picked up two wickets each for WP.
Daniel Smith then smashed 57 off 33 balls for WP, while Edward Moore – the competition’s leading run-scorer – remained unbeaten on 31, as WP reached their target in 18.5 overs.
