The Proteas Women’s team got their tour of India off to a perfect start with an eight-wicket victory in Lucknow on Sunday.
The South Africans delivered a clinical bowling performance that restricted the hosts to 177-9 in their 50 overs with Shabnim Ismail starring to claim 3-28 in her ten overs.
Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt made a spectacular start to the run-chase and provided the Proteas with the platform to ease over the line.
The pair put on a magnificent 169-run partnership for the opening wicket before Wolvaardt fell for 80. Captain Sune Luus only managed one when she was sent packing but Lee steered the Proteas to victory with an unbeaten 83.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in the second of five ODIs.
