• Proteas Women share series after batting collapse

India secured a commanding 10-wicket victory in the final women’s T20I against the Proteas in Chennai on Tuesday.

The three-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium was drawn 1-1.

Player of the Match Pooja Vastrakar’s career-best figures of 4-13 helped dismiss South Africa for 84 in 17.1 overs.

India openers Smriti Mandhana (54* off 40 balls; eight fours, two sixes) and Shafali Verma (27*) then chased down the target in 10.5 overs.

After winning the toss, India made early inroads into the South African batting lineup, with Laura Wolvaardt (nine) and Marizanne Kapp (10) sent packing during the powerplay by Shreyanka Patil (1-19) and Vastrakar.

The Indian bowlers continued to take wickets at regular intervals, dismissing the in-form Tazmin Brits (20), Anneke Bosch (17) and Nadine de Klerk (nought) to leave South Africa at 61-5 in the 11th over.

Vastrakar and Radha Yadav (3-6) then helped take the remaining five Proteas wickets for just 23 runs.

India top-order batters Mandhana and Verma raced to 40-0 in the powerplay and reached the drinks break at 74-0.

Mandhana then celebrated her 24th T20I half-century and the winning runs in the very next over.

Vastrakar was named the Player of the Series.
