Georgia Elwiss scored 100* at the Arundel Cricket Club on Wednesday as the hosts recovered fr0m 76-6 to 276-9 before declaring, still 25 runs behind South Africa’s first-innings total.
Elwiss and Mady Villiers (42) formed a crucial 101-run seventh-wicket partnership.
Anneke Bosch was the Proteas’ best bowler, taking 3-17, while Tumi Sekhukhune picked up 2-27.
At stumps, the Proteas were 140-2 after 40 overs, with Andrie Steyn (50*) and Lizelle Lee (28*) looking comfortable at the crease.
The Proteas will face England in a one-off Test in Taunton from 27-30 June.
