• Proteas trio nominated for ICC awards

    Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award.

    The 27-year-old was the joint-top Test wicket-taker of 2022, with 47 in just nine Tests at an average of 22.25 and a strike rate of 34.1.

    England all-rounder Ben Stokes, England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and Australia opener Usman Khawaja have also been nominated for the award.

    Meanwhile, 22-year-old Proteas fast bowler Marco Jansen is in line to win the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, along with New Zealand’s Finn Allen, India’s Arshdeep Singh and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran.

    In eight Tests, Jansen took 36 wickets at an average of 19.02 and scored 234 runs, including a career-best 59 against Australia at the MCG. He also played in three ODIs, taking two wickets and scoring 16 runs, and one T20I, in which he picked up a wicket and scored 12.

    Proteas Women’s fast bowler Shabnim Ismail has been nominated for the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award, having ended 2022 as the highest women’s ODI wicket-taker (37 in 17 ODIs).

    The 34-year-old will be up against Australia’s Alyssa Healy, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr and England’s Nat Sciver.
