The Proteas, several of them wearing masks, were screened at the airport before boarding their respective flights back home.
Amid the increasingly global shutdown due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the South African cricket team departed their cancelled tour of India under different circumstances – temperature scans, masks and added protocol.
The first ODI in Dharamsala was washed out without a ball bowled. The second and third matches in Lucknow and Kolkata, respectively, were going to be played behind closed doors as a preventative measure.
However, Cricket South Africa and the Board of Control for Cricket in India then decided to suspend the series – and eventually look to reschedule.
Further to the action taken by various teams and stakeholders, the planned arrival media conference for the Proteas, scheduled for Wednesday morning, has now also been cancelled.
The team depart India in two batches with Cape Town-based squad members flying directly to Cape Town while the remaining members travel to Johannesburg.
