The Proteas’ scheduled T20 warm-up match against Leicestershire on 18 June will not take place.
The match was originally slated for the same day as the Champions Trophy final, and was therefore on condition that the Proteas failed to qualify for the final.
The reason for the game being scrapped, arose from the fact that the participation agreement, signed by all Champions Trophy competing nations, stipulates that no team may play a match up until five days after the tournament’s conclusion.
‘Whilst we accept that the fixture was always subject to South Africa not reaching the ICC Champions Trophy final, it is disappointing to be informed at this late stage that the game can now no longer take place,’ Leicestershire CCC chief executive Wasim Khan told the county’s website.
The opening fixture of the Champions Trophy is against Sri Lanka at Kennington Oval on 3 June.
