The five Proteas players, who departed for India after this past Sunday’s Pink ODI, will miss the start of the 2021 IPL campaign due to a mandatory seven-day quarantine period.
Quinton de Kock (Mumbai Indians), Kagiso Rabada (Delhi Capitals), Lungi Ngidi (Chennai Super Kings), David Miller (Rajasthan Royals) and Anrich Nortje (Delhi Capitals) arrived in India at the start of the week, where they began their isolation periods at respective hotels.
Ultimately, it means De Kock will not be part of the Mumbai Indians team that takes on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Friday’s opener, while Rabada, Nortje and Ngidi will be unavailable for Saturday’s clash between the Super Kings and the Capitals.

With the Rajasthan Royals set to play their first match on Monday, against the Kings XI Punjab, Miller confirmed to SA Cricket magazine on Thursday that he will also not be part of the encounter with his quarantine period set to finish that evening only.
Other international players are also set to miss the start of the IPL due to the same reason. Adam Zampa arrived late at RCB after getting married in Australia, while New Zealand batsman Finn Allen will also not complete his quarantine period in time for Friday’s clash with the Capitals.
