A triumphant and emphatic 3-0 Test series victory completed by the Proteas over Pakistan on day four of the third Test at the Wanderers has seen the Proteas rise up to second in the Test rankings behind leaders India.
The series win earned South Africa four points, which took their tally to 110 points, two points above England in the list, led by India on 116 points. India’s points tally had grown following their own stirring 2-1 Test series win over Australia in the four-match series in Australia ending last week.
Pakistan drop one spot following their humbling loss, and now slip behind Sri Lanka (who have a two-Test series against the Proteas in February). Pakistan are in seventh place on the log after starting the series with 92 points, but they have dropped down to 88 points, three below Sri Lanka.
New Zealand trail England (107 points) by just one point, although England will have to win their upcoming three-Test series against the Windies (starting on 23 January) in order to keep their lead over New Zealand.
