SACricketmag.co.za looks back at memorable Proteas Test moments in England ahead of the three-match series which starts next week.
The second Test between England and the Proteas in 2003 was a career highlight for Makhaya Ntini, who became the first South African bowler to take 10 wickets in a match at Lord’s.
He began by dismissing the England openers, Marcus Trescothick and captain Michael Vaughan, before sending middle-order batsmen Alec Stewart and Andrew Flintoff packing. With Steve Harmison’s scalp, he claimed figures of 5-75.
The first black African to play Test cricket for the Proteas dismissed Trescothick, Stewart and Harmison again in England’s second innings, while also taking the wickets of Nasser Hussain and Ashley Giles.
Ntini celebrated innings figures of 5-145 and match figures of 10-220 by kissing the Lord’s pitch.
He would end the series with 23 wickets, more than any other bowler.
