The Proteas beat Afghanistan by 41 runs in their T20 World Cup warm-up match in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
South Africa batted first after winning the toss and posted 145-5, with No 3 Aiden Markram scoring a classy 48 from 35 balls.
Captain Temba Bavuma, playing in his first match since suffering a thumb injury against Sri Lanka in early September, made 31 off 39 balls while opening the batting. David Miller hit 20* off 10 after coming in at No 6.
South Africa’s bowlers ensured that Afghanistan’s chase fell well short.
Spinners Keshav Maharaj (1-14 in four overs), Tabraiz Shamsi (3-19 in four) and Bjorn Fortuin (1-21 in four) kept things tight, and while pace bowlers Lungi Ngidi (2-27 in four) and Dwaine Pretorius (1-30 in four) were more expensive, they also picked up wickets as Afghanistan finished on 104-8.
The Proteas’ final warm-up match is against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
