How the Proteas can qualify for the Champions Trophy semi-finals after Friday’s Group B match between Afghanistan and Australia ended in a no-result.
Australia have moved up to four points and qualified for the semis, while Afghanistan now have three points, the same as South Africa.
If the Proteas beat England on Saturday, they will top the group with five points.
If England win, then South Africa and Afghanistan will finish on three points each, which will bring net run rate into the equation.
South Africa’s net run rate is +2.14 and Afghanistan’s -0.99.
If batting second, South Africa would need to lose by at least 207 runs (chasing 301) for Afghanistan to qualify at their expense.
If England bat second (chasing 301), they would need to reach the target within 11.1 overs for Afghanistan to qualify.
