Uncapped WP fast bowler Nandre Burger has been included in all three Proteas squads to face India in December and January.
WP batsman David Bedingham has earned a maiden Test call-up, while Province all-rounder Mpongwana is in the ODI squad.
EP Warriors batsman Tristan Stubbs has been named in the Test squad for the first time. The 23-year-old, who is already capped in both white-ball formats, scored 117 for South Africa A against Sri Lanka earlier this year and recently struck 130 against the Central Gauteng Lions in the 4-Day Series.
WP wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne has been recalled to the ODI and Test squads. The 26-year-old last featured for the Proteas in the Test series against Australia in January and has since led Province to the One-Day Cup title and scored 275 runs in three 4-Day Series matches at an average of 68.75 and a top score of 150.
Other notable selections include KZN Dolphins seam bowler Ottniel Baartman in the white-ball squads and Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder in the ODI and Test squads.
ODI captain Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada are among a group of players who have been rested for the two white-ball series.
Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi will miss the third T20I and ODI series and will instead, together with Bavuma and Rabada, play in the round of first-class matches for their respective domestic teams from 14-17 December in preparation for the Test series.
T20I captain Aiden Markram will captain the ODI side in Bavuma’s absence.
“We have a busy summer ahead starting with the T20Is and then ODIs against India and we have therefore taken the decision to omit several of our senior players,” said Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter.
“This decision was taken together with [Proteas Test coach] coach Shukri [Conrad] as we place emphasis on the red-ball leg of the tour, meaning they will instead be preparing for the Test series by playing domestic cricket.”
Northerns Titans fast bowler Lizaad Williams suffered a groin strain during this past weekend’s four-day match against WP and will undergo further medical assessments this week to determine the extent of the injury.
Anrich Nortje (lower back stress fracture) and Wayne Parnell (left shoulder) were not considered for selection as they are still undergoing rehabilitation for their respective injuries.
The T20I squad will get together in Durban on Thursday.
