• Prince makes plans without Malan, Nawaz

The Cape Town Blitz will be without England batsman Dawid Malan and Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for Wednesday’s Mzansi Super League meeting with the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at Newlands.

Malan captained the Blitz to victories over the Tshwane Spartans and Durban Heat, while Nawaz played a key role with bat and ball in both. The pair have since departed for the T10 League in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

However, the trio of Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock and Andile Phehulukwayo have joined the Blitz squad. They recently returned from South Africa’s successful limited-overs tour of Australia.

Cape Town Blitz face a massive selection headache ahead of their third Mzansi Super League match against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at PPC Newlands on Wednesday.

‘Indeed, all the Proteas are available for selection and there is going to be some tough selection decisions to be made, but it is also exciting to have them coming, who are all unbelievable cricketers in this format,’ said coach Ashwell Prince.

‘Dawid Malan and Nawaz have left and will be playing in the T10 league. Nawaz has been replaced by Hussain Tallat – a batting all-rounder who bowls seam, and Asif Ali will remain with the squad for the remainder of the competition.

‘I am sure over the course of the competition, with all the international players coming in, you are still going to be needing your full squad. Yes, it will be unfortunate for some people to miss out, but I still see all the players playing a massive role, especially with some of the back-to-back matches coming up.’

After Wednesday, the Blitz will travel to Johannesburg for Saturday’s clash with the Stars at the Wanderers.
