Cobras coach Ashwell Prince has called out Proteas players for failing to take up opportunities to play franchise cricket in the way their international counterparts do.
In the fallout from the Proteas’ dismal showing in India, Prince has entered the fray by tagging on to a statement by Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
New issue: Bavuma – one size fits all
Ashwin and Mayank Agarwal turned out for their state sides to play in the domestic 50-overs-a-side tournament less than 24 hours after featuring for the national side.

‘There’ll be a lot of reasons given for Proteas under-performance but I bet this will not be one of them. I’ve always admired the appetite of international players in other countries playing with youth in domestic comps. 100% not the case in South Africa. #justsaying,’ he tweeted.
The former Proteas batsman then turned things up a bit by throwing money from T20 competitions into the picture.
‘But let some random T20 gig for a few thousand $$$ come up, then we can fly half way around the world into different time zones, land and play on the same day. Then all of a sudden all the science of rest and recovery flies out the window.’
