All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius is eager to push for selection for next year’s T20 World Cup with a string of solid performances in the 2019 Mzansi Super League.
Pretorius was recruited by the Paarl Rocks in the MSL player draft this week. He will play alongside national captain Faf du Plessis at the Rocks, who have also purchased former Proteas batsman JP Duminy and fast bowler Hardus Viljoen.
‘I think the MSL is probably going to be a big criteria when it comes to the T20 World Cup team, so if we can perform well, we can and hopefully throw our names in the hat for World Cup selection,’ said Pretorius.
‘I’m sure for every guy playing the MSL that’s one of their massive targets and we saw how many younger players came through last year, so I’m sure anything is possible. When it comes to the T20 World Cup, I don’t think anything is set in stone, so I’m sure there’s a few spots up for grabs.
‘Hopefully some guys can perform and put their hands up and hopefully one of them is me. I am very excited to be going to Paarl and I enjoy visiting the Western Cape.’
The Lions star played for South Africa at the World Cup in the United Kingdom earlier this year. He then joined Northamptonshire for the T20 Blast and County Championship Division Two.
