The West Indies face the winless Proteas at the Rose Bowl cricket ground, home of England’s Hampshire. Our experts play selector and pick their XIs.
Who wins? Our team makes their picks
Jason Holder’s men come off a narrow defeat to Australia, while the Proteas will attempt to claim their first win of the tournament. After three defeats, the Proteas will be desperate for a win, with a loss all but ending their tournament.
The starting lineup for the Proteas has become a guessing game when selecting their bowling unit. With Dale Steyn ruled out of the tournament, and question marks hovering over Lungi Ngidi, it’s uncertain who the Proteas will pick in their XI. The India spinners were superb at the Rose Bowl, but the Proteas spinners were not able to produce the same quality.
They need to decide whether two spinners is an option against the big-hitting Windies, or whether they should trust Beuran Hendricks if Lungi Ngidi is still unfit. Aiden Markram was surprisingly left out against India, but if selected it gives him a chance play on what was his home ground during his impressive pre-World Cup preparations.
