Delano Potgieter’s unbeaten 89 at the Wanderers on Friday kept the Central Gauteng Lions’ hopes of winning the 4-Day Domestic Series final alive.
The Lions recovered from 113-6 to end day three of the five-day clash on 282-8, and with a 195-run lead over Western Province.
Potgieter, who made 81 in the Lions’ first innings, was well supported by Bjorn Fortuin (42) and then Codi Yusuf (seven not out).
Earlier, nightwatchman Tshepo Moreki took his tally to 57, while Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma followed a first-innings duck with a useful 45.
However, Zubayr Hamza (17) and Ryan Rickelton (10) again failed to deliver for the Lions.
WP pace bowlers Dane Paterson (3-43) and Mthiwekhaya Nabe (3-59) caused most of the damage with the ball.
