Gauteng’s Delano Potgieter’s all-round performance for Gauteng in the Africa T20 Cup is our Play of the Day.
The 22-year-old, in only his 10th T20 for his province, hit the second half-century of his career. The opening batsmen played a crucial role in keeping Gauteng on top of their pool. The bulk of his runs came at the beginning of his innings, as he powered to his 50 in 30 balls despite losing his opening partner Martin Coetzee for 11 in the seventh over and Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma for eight two overs later.
He added 20 runs with Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder – who took charge when he came in smashing 43 off 32 balls before Potgieter lost his wicket with his side on 139. Mulder went on to reach his 50 before Romano Terblanche’s three wickets including a run out in the final over saw Gauteng restricted to 156-6.
Potgieter rounded off his performance with the ball. The right-arm medium pacer took five wickets for 22 runs that included the big wickets of Andries Gous and Rudi Second. His wickets were key to toppling Free State for 121, to claim a 35 run victory.
Gauteng are unbeaten in Pool B having won three out of three matches.
