CSA will decide on Tuesday whether the Pietermaritzburg Oval can host KZN Inland Tuskers’ matches in the T20 Challenge.
Last week, Rapport newspaper reported that pins and glass shards had to be removed from the field by Tuskers players and coaches following the KZN State of the Province address by premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube at the venue.
This Friday, a match between the B teams of KZN Inland and Free State was called off after a Free State player was slightly injured due to the pins on the outfield.
“It wasn’t a serious injury, but the outfield was bad – there were hundreds of the pins lying around,” Free State Cricket Union CEO Johan van Heerden told Rapport.
Meanwhile, a schools match between Hilton and Michaelhouse, which was set to be played at Pietermaritzburg Oval, was moved to another stadium.
“We have been dealing with the issue around the facilities since my visit last Tuesday. It is a very deplorable situation,” CSA head of pathway Edward Khoza told Rapport, adding that a decision on whether the venue can host T20 Challenge matches will be made on Tuesday.
The Tuskers’ first home game is scheduled to take place on Friday, against the North West Dragons.
