Jos Buttler’s 57 off 22 balls, which swept Lancashire to victory over Worcestershire in the T20 Blast, is our Play of the Day.
Alviro Petersen (34 off 20) was a virtual spectator as they put on 98 for the first wicket, the most prolific powerplay in English T20 history. He racked up seven fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 259. It was also Lancashire’s fastest fifty, coming off just 20 deliveries.
At the height of its ferocity, Buttler’s assault yielded 40 runs from eight balls bowled at him by the tremulous Matt Henry and South Africa Kyle Abbott before Abbott surprised the crowd, and himself probably, by having the last word with a yorker.
What’s more, he did it in defiance of the pain of an injury to his left thumb suffered while keeping wicket.
