The CPL Play of the Day goes to Umar Akmal, forĀ almost taking a blinder of a catch, before actually taking one of the catches of the tournament the next ball.
The 17th over of the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ unsuccessful chase saw Pakistani batsman Akmal take centre stage. He’s usually known for his work behind the stumps when he’s out on the field, but perhaps he should keep off the gloves more often, for his antics on the long boundary were world-class.
Chris Barnwell’s first slog to long-on went for six despite Akmal’s best efforts. He held on for the catch, but the momentum took him over the ropes and he tried to release the ball at the same time. It was a superb effort though. Barnwell tried the exact same thing the next delivery. It didn’t travel as far this time, and Akmal ran in at an angle to grab the ball with one hand, in what will definitely remain in the best catches highlights reel come the end of the tournament.
