Lendl Simmons scored 22 runs off a single over for the Patriots in their win against the Zouks.
Canadian bowler Nitish Kumar had the most unforgiving of welcomes to the Caribbean Premier League. Playing in only his second game for St Lucia, the off-break bowler came on in the fourth over replacing opener Kyle Mayers. He had a good start with a dot ball off the first ball. But the second ball didn’t go as well as he would have hoped. Kumar missed his line and Simmons saw an opportunity and sent the ball over the bowler’s head for six. The next ball Kumar bowled a full-length ball on off-stump, which Simmons again sent over the boundary ropes, this time over long-off.
There was temporary reprieve for Kumar in the fourth ball of the over as Simmons mistimed his shot and the ball was fielded at mid-wicket. In the penultimate ball of the over Kumar unwittingly again bowled the ball full on off-stump and Simmons didn’t miss out this time, launching the ball over long-on for his third six of the over. As if expecting different results from the same mistake, he once again bowled a full ball on off-stump and again it was capitalised, this time for four runs in the cover region.
St Kitts went on to post 203 runs after some good work from the opener, who scored 30 runs from 16 along with Evin Lewis, who top-scored with 73 off 36 balls. St Kitts won by 58 runs for their first win of the tournament.
