The IPL Play of the Day, rather unfortunately, goes to Tim Southee for dropping two catches off successive deliveries.
The Mumbai Indians won a thrilling contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday night, but, despite being on the winning side, it was probably an evening to forget for Tim Southee, who dropped two catches in a row, off his Kiwi teammate Mitchell McClenaghan no less.
It happened in the 19th over of KKR’s innings, as McClenaghan was looking for a cheap scalp or two to increase his lead at the top of the wicket-taking charts.
He had two chances to do just that, but Southee fluffed both of them. The ball popped in and out of his hands as he was on the move on the deep mid-wicket boundary. The second one was even easier, as he got into a better position to take the catch, only to let it burst through his hands for four.
An embarrassing moment for the New Zealand paceman that had Jonty Rhodes covering his face with his hands.
