Pins and glass shards have had to be removed from the Pietermaritzburg Oval field by KZN Inland Tuskers players and coaches.
According to Rapport newspaper, this followed the KZN State of the Province address by premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube at the venue earlier in the week.
As a result, a Tuskers warm-up match scheduled for Friday had to be cancelled, as players fear injury if all the pins aren’t picked up, and CSA could move their T20 Challenge matches to another venue.
Last year, the field was strewn with condoms, beer cans and chicken bones after another event.
Rapport says delegates from CSA and the South African Cricketers’ Association (Saca) will visit the union on Tuesday after which a decision will be made on whether the Pietermaritzburg Oval can host T20 Challenge matches.
Saca also wants to discuss the poor quality of the facilities and the lack of support the union gives to the Tuskers team.
