The Pietermaritzburg Oval will not host KZN Inland Tuskers’ matches in the T20 Challenge.
Pins and glass shards were left on the field following the KZN State of the Province address by premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube at the venue on 28 February.
Despite attempts by Tuskers players, coaches and ground staff to pick them all up, CSA has decided the field remains unfit for play.
Last Friday, a match between the B teams of KZN Inland and Free State was called off after a Free State player was slightly injured due to the pins on the outfield, while a schools match between Hilton and Michaelhouse, which was set to be played at Pietermaritzburg Oval, was moved to another stadium.
“Cricket South Africa was made aware of the concerns raised regarding the condition of the oval used by KZN Inland following their promotion to Division 1,” read a statement on Tuesday.
“The well-being of our players and the integrity of the game are paramount, and we take such issues seriously. In response to these concerns, CSA has decided to move KZN Inland’s upcoming home fixtures to alternative venues.
“This decision was made to ensure that matches continue to be played under the best possible conditions for both players and fans. We are committed to working closely with KZN Inland and relevant stakeholders to address and rectify the issues at the Oval.
“Our goal is to ensure that the venue meets the high standards required for Division 1 competition and to prevent similar situations in the future.”
The Tuskers’ home matches will now be played at their opponents’ stadiums, starting with Friday’s match against the North West Dragons in Potchefstroom.
