Vernon Philander’s brother, Tyrone, has been shot dead in his hometown of Ravensmead.

The 32-year-old was killed on Wednesday, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Webner Street. The shooter is still at large and police have confirmed that the case is being investigated and no further details around the shooting are available.

The Philander family issued a statement that read in part: ‘The Philander family are grateful for the messages of support received since the news broke.’

Vernon added: ‘Our family is coming to terms with the brutal murder. I would like to ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.

‘The murder is now the subject of a police investigation and we respectfully ask that the media give the police the space to conduct a thorough investigation.

‘Tyrone is forever in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace.’
