Spinning all-rounder Robin Peterson has been ruled out of the remainder of South Africa’s Test series against the West Indies due to injury.
Peterson will be replaced in the squad by leg-spinner Imran Tahir, but the Proteas are likely to name an unchanged bowling unit – sans the services of Tahir – for the second Test in Port Elizabeth.
The right-handed Temba Bavuma or left-handed Rilee Rossouw, meanwhile, is expected to play ahead of the injured Quinton de Kock.
‘Peterson was struck on the left index finger while fielding a ball during training on Tuesday and received stitches to the finger. Tahir will join the squad on Wednesday,’ read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
The hosts sport a lead in the three-match series, after a convincing innings and 220-run victory in the first Test in Centurion. St George’s Park and Newlands in Cape Town will host matches two and three respectively.
