Gideon Peters was named Hero of the Day for his heroics against Border for Northerns on day one of the 2017 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week.
The award is presented on each day of the tournament in recognition of a game-changing moment. Peters was selected for the award by a Coca-Cola appointed panel of cricket experts, which included SACricketmag.com, after he took four wickets and ran out a player in Border’s second innings to help Northerns win outright – a rare outcome for the timed matches at the competition.
‘Sometimes things just fall into place and work for you and that is what happened to me today. My captain only wanted me to bowl two overs but I felt like I was on a roll and had more wickets in me. I would like to thank my teammates for all the support they have given me, both today and before the tournament,’ said Peters.
Former Proteas legend and head of the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day panel Victor Mpitsang was impressed with Peters’ efforts.
‘Gideon was outstanding in his bowling today, especially in the second innings. He was quick and accurate, and his performance was definitely the turning point of the game. Well done to him on a great performance.’
