Dane Paterson’s three strikes helped the Cobras claim their third consecutive victory with a 10-run win against the Warriors at Boland Park on Wednesday.
After a wicketless return in his first three matches, Paterson was left out of the Cobras XI for their wins against the Knights and the Lions.
He was brought back for the Warriors trip to Paarl, in a must-win basement battle to keep their tournament alive.
After dominant knocks from Hashim Amla (52), Temba Bavuma (42) and George Linde (52*), the Cobras posted a decent 159-4 in their allotted overs.
Paterson was immediately influential during the visitors’ chase, following up Rory Kleinveldt’s dismissal of Gihahn Cloete with a scalp of his own, knocking over Warriors’ captain, Jon-Jon Smuts, for 12 to reduce them to 17-2.
He added to his early start with a latter-overs double, to help reduce the Eastern Province side 138-7 before a run-out of Birch shattered the Warriors’ hopes. The visitors ended on 149-8 and Paterson with figures of 3-25 as the Cobras recorded their third win on the trot.
