Bryce Parsons starred once again for the SA U19 side as they tasted victory for the first time on their tour of India, defeating Afghanistan U19 by nine runs at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
Thamsanqa Khumalo (25) and Luke Beaufort (40) helped to get the young Proteas off to a decent start to reach 40-2 after 14 overs. before Parsons (40 off 50 balls) and Andile Mokgakane (38 off 31 balls) got the run rate flowing.
A strong finish to the innings saw the Proteas reach 200 before they were bowled out with one ball in hand. Riaz Hussan (3-26) starred with the ball for Afghanistan, backed up by Arif Khan (2-39), Abid Mohammadi (2-29) and Shafiqullah Ghafari (2-24).

Afghanistan got off to a good start and were on track for the win at 137-4 in the 35th over before a double strike from Parsons reduced them to 170-6 in the 42nd over.
With Afghanistan needing just 31 runs from the last nine overs, the Proteas were superb in the field to bowl them out for 191 off 48.3 overs.
Marco Jansen (4-23, econ 2.42) picked up his second consecutive four-for, while Player of the Match Parsons (2-32, econ 2-32) and Achille Cloete (2-45) made telling contributions with the ball.
