Former Proteas all-rounder Wayne Parnell batted and bowled bravely, but failed to stop Lancashire from collecting victory over Worcestershire in Thursday’s T20 Blast match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Parnell struck a brisk 19 down the order in the Rapid’s final total of 130-9. His cameo was the second-highest score of the innings, after New Zealand opener Martin Guptill’s 37.
The left-arm seamer later took the only wicket during the Lightning’s chase, but his dismissal of hard-hitting opener Liam Livingstone was not enough to stop the 21-run defeat in the rain-affected fixture.
Pretorius for Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire beat the Birmingham Bears at the County Ground in Northampton, where South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius scored just six and took one wicket for the hosts.
Ackermann for Leicestershire
At Grace Road in Leicester, captain Colin Ackermann gathered 58 from 41 deliveries in Leicestershire’s final total of 158 all out. The former South Africa U19 player’s effort, however, was in vain. Durham openers Scott Steel and D’Arcy Short were prompt in striking complementary half-centuries, as the visitors romped to triumph with all of 53 deliveries to spare.
Tahir for Surrey
Proteas tail-ender Imran Tahir hit all-rounder David Wiese for a six in the final over of Surrey’s pursuit to ensure a tie with Sussex.
