Wayne Parnell took 2-26 in the Tridents’ two-wicket defeat to league leaders, the Trinbago Knight Riders, on Saturday.
Saved by a Shoaib Malik’s 51, the Tridents posted 152-9 in their 20 overs at Port of Spain.
With a difficult target to defend, Parnell continued his good form, which saw him claim three in his previous match against St Lucia Stars.
The South African left-arm seamer got his side off to an excellent start to remove the dangerous Brendon McCullum and rock the Trinbago side at 4-1 in the first over.
The visitors continued their momentum and continued to take wickets as they found themselves four down with 76 on the board.
This could not stop a determined Sunil Narine, who struck a 47-run and 67-run partnership with Darren (25) and Dwayne Bravo (18) to put the Knight Riders back into the driver seat.
After the wickets of both Bravo brothers, the game got a little more interesting. On 139-5 and needing 13 runs for victory off the final three overs, Parnell struck again in the 17th over, Shadab Khan dismissed for a duck.
Despite the Tridents’ removal of Narine after a dominant 35-ball 79, the visitors could not keep the hosts from posting 155-8 to claim a two-wicket victory with five balls remaining.
Elsewhere, in Gros Islet, Tabraiz Shamsi ended with figures of 1-35 as his side defended a dominant 197-run target to claim a 33-run victory against St Lucia Stars.
