All-rounder Wayne Parnell and fast bowler Hardus Viljoen are the most successful South Africans at the ongoing T10 League in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, so far.
Parnell is playing for the Kerala Knights – and boasts 59 runs in three matches. All 59 came in one appearance against the Sindhis. The innings featured seven fours and four sixes – and spanned a mere two dozen deliveries.
The hard-hitting Cameron Delport has struck 50 in four for the Pakhtoons. Delport’s limited-overs prowess was on display for the Paarl Rocks in the inaugural Mzansi Super League prior to his depart for Sharjah.
The left-handed Rilee Rossouw was also playing in the MSL for the Tshwane Spartans, before leaving for the UAE. He has since gathered 46 runs in two innings for the Rajputs.
Viljoen has taken five wickets in three matches for the Northern Warriors. Spinner Roelof van der Merwe has played three times for the Maratha Arabians, but managed just one wicket.
Fast bowler Morne Morkel is representing the Bengal Tigers, but hasn’t taken a wicket in three outings.
‘Last year I followed the first season quite closely. I was speaking to the guys and watched a lot of Youtube videos.’ the Khaleej Times quoted Morkel as saying before the competition started.
‘I think it’s exciting for me now to start a new chapter in my life. It gives me a great opportunity to learn new things and improve my skills.
‘I’d still like to play a lot more T20 cricket, but it will also be a great platform for me to sharpen my skills.’
The Pakhtoons and Warriors currently lead group A and B respectively, in the eight-team tournament.
