Tim Paine will lead the ODI side and Aaron Finch will skipper the T20I side for Australia’s limited-overs tour of England in June.
Paine and Finch replace the banned duo of Steve Smith and David Warner after the ball-tampering incident in South Africa.
Australia will be playing a five-match ODI series and one T20I against England in June. After that, they will be travelling to Zimbabwe, joined by Pakistan, for a T20I tri-series.
Along with the announcement of their new skippers, Australia also called back Nathan Lyon to the side. The 30-year-old’s last ODI was against Sri Lanka in August 2016.
‘Nathan is our number one off-spinner and has excelled with the red ball, however, he is not new to white ball cricket and deserves his chance to push for World Cup selection,’ said Chief Selector Trevor Hohns. ‘England potentially has a number of left-handers in their side and we look forward to seeing what he can produce with the white-ball in English conditions.’
Shaun Marsh has been called back to the squad, and so has wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Chris Lynn, Usman Khawaja, Cameron White and Adam Zampa have not yet received a central contract by CA.
In T20s, Carey has been named vice-captain to Aaron Finch and has also been handed a contract as backup wicketkeeper Paine.
Mitchell Starc and Pat Cumins are still recovering from injuries and will likely be unavailable for both tours.
‘Mitchell is going to undertake a prolonged rehabilitation period for his tibial bone stress injury and we are aiming for a return to play for the Pakistan Test Series in the UAE,’ said CA physiotherapist David Beakley.
‘Pat is still recovering from a lumbar bone stress injury, the good news is that it has not progressed to a fracture but he still requires a period of rehabilitation with an aim for him to return to play for the Pakistan Test series along with Starc.’
