• Paarl Rocks lose Duminy for entire MSL

Paarl Rocks batsman JP Duminy has been ruled out of the 2019 Mzansi Super League due to a hamstring injury.

Duminy injured his hamstring earlier this week and has been diagnosed with a high-grade partial tear.

‘JP brings a lot of value in a lot of different areas. His experience will be missed, especially by the younger guys,’ said Rocks captain Faf du Plessis.

‘I have full confidence in our team to bounce back from this. We have strengthened our batting this year and we’ll use this setback as motivation.’

The veteran left-hander was meant to play for the Cape Town Blitz in last year’s inaugural MSL, but was sidelined by a hand injury. The 35-year-old Duminy boasts plenty of experience in domestic T20 tournaments around the world, including the Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Global T20 Canada and Pakistan Super League.

‘We will assess our options on Monday and then decide how to best replace JP,’ added Rocks head coach Adrian Birrell.

The Rocks are also without the injured Aiden Markram, who was replaced in the squad by wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne late last month.

‘Kyle will add variety with his batting and can also serve as a backup wicketkeeper,’ said Birrell at the time.
